Imminent reform to ‘zombie’ grid policy to revive opportunities
KATIE INSCH • November 16th, 2024When this National Grid Reform (TM04+) has been introduced to get rid of ‘zombie’ grid applications – speculative developments that have secured grid connections but show little progress towards construction. Projects ready for immediate development will be prioritised, enabling active projects to advance – ‘first ready, first connected’ – and stagnant ones to make way for viable initiatives.
The timing and parameters of the reform are still uncertain. A decision from OFGEM on the grid reform is expected at the end of Q1 2025. However, an announcement is expected in January.
In the meantime, for many developers, the foot is still very much on the accelerator to get Option Agreements signed before the end of the year.
