Grid Reform Gate 2 date……..postponed again!

KATIE INSCH • April 27th, 2025

Last week Ofgem gave the greenlight to NESO’s plan to reform grid connections to get rid of ‘zombie’ projects – speculative renewables schemes which are clogging up the grid queue – and open the way for projects that are ready to go.

For those who have read previous news articles, you’ll know that for developers, it has been a frantic past few months trying to get renewable energy project option agreements and leases concluded to be ready for the first stage of the reform, the Gate 2 to Whole Queue. Unfortunately, however, there is a delay on the Gate 2 to Whole Queue process date, which was last proposed by NESO to be 1 st May 2025. This date has now been postponed until Q2 2025, with the exact date still awaiting confirmation. For some the postponement of the Gate 2 date will be a relief, whilst for others who had their legals concluded, this will be frustrating.
